Laser Caries Detection Aid
Our office uses DIAGNOdent to aid in the detection of caries—tooth decay that can lead to cavities. Early detection helps protect and preserve as much of the tooth as possible to maintain a healthy, beautiful smile. Learn more about hidden caries
Our cosmetic dental services include:
- Teeth Whitening
- Porcelain Veneers
Thin porcelain laminates can be bonded onto the front surfaces of anterior teeth to brighten them, change their shape, close gaps and /or lengthen them. Please see our Smile Gallery to see the results that we have been able to accomplish for our patients.
- Perfect Color Match
Using Digital Photography and Digital Shade Determination
To get just the right shade and shape to veneers, we take digital photos of our patients' teeth and send them to our ceramic laboratory to use as a guide. In addition, we use Vita Easy Shade which digitally calibrates the color of the patient's teeth for a perfect match.
Silver amalgam fillings were the most common fillings for back molars. Many patients over time have sensitivity issues and these old amalgam fillings can crack and leak leaving the tooth looking gray. Bonding the remaining tooth structure with tooth colored composite resin can eliminate these problems. Your back teeth not only look better, they are stronger and less sensitive. Please check out the before and after pictures in the Smile Gallery.
We now make customized perfect fitting athletic guards for your son or daughter athlete. These beautiful guards have many advantages over the ones you buy at Modells, Sports Authority or any drug store chain. They are fabricated from a mold of your child's teeth. This makes the guard more protective of the teeth and gums and a thousand times more comfortable. They also look cool. Another big advantage to these custom guards, that if lost, you just tell us and we can make another in a matter of minutes.
The cost for the athletic guards is $95.00 complete. A second guard would be $75.00. It is a great deal and a fantastic safety feature for your athlete!
Implants replace missing teeth without touching any of the surrounding teeth, (such as with bridges and dentures). Dr. Galante feels that of all the procedures for replacing teeth, Implants has helped more of his patients achieve better chewing ability and self- esteem.
We use Nitrous Oxide, a safe gas, to relax a patient who has some anxiety about dental work. The patient is awake, and can respond to instructions, but the "sweet air" calms them making the procedure go faster.
A handpiece spraying a precise stream of air mixed with tiny particles can remove small amounts of decay and stains. After the removal, a tooth colored resin can be bonded into the grooves restoring a perfectly virgin tooth. Sometimes the air abrasion will reveal a hidden cavity, which then can be removed and filled with a tooth colored resin. No anesthesia is needed! This is a great procedure for children and young adults.
Our office now utilizes VELscope, a revolutionary hand-held device for oral cancer screening. The VELscope handpiece emits a safe blue light causing gums and tissue to fluoresce. Under the light, healthy tissue produces fluorescence that appears as a bright apple-green glow. Suspicious regions do not fluoresce and appear dark. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is painless, non-invasive, and there are no rinses or stains required.
Oral Cancer Facts
Did you know?...
- Oral Cancer kills one person every hour, 24 hours a day in North America.
- The incidence of oral cancer will increase 11% in the U.S. in 2008.
- The overall survival rate for oral cancer is 52% but when discovered early, increases to 80-90%.
- Unfortunately, only 35% of oral cancer cases are diagnosed in the early stages.
- Prep-malignant changes actually start below the surface; at the basement membrane. These changes may not be apparent to the naked eye until the disease progresses to the surface.
